Looking good is a daily struggle that we all contend with. There are so many challenges put in front of us when it comes to keeping hair looking good at all times. These include rain, humidity, the temperature and many more.

The good news is that there are some tricks to keeping your hair looking great no matter what.

1. Use heat styling sparingly

Even though this is one of the most convenient and quicker methods to styling your hair, heat styling such as blow dryers, curling irons, wands, flat irons and hot rollers can damage your hair over time and dry it out. If you must use these styling methods regularly, it is wise to make sure that you invest in some spray in heat protectant for your hair.

2. Sleep on silk

Okay, this may seem a little overboard but a silk pillow can make a huge difference to your hair cuticles. Cotton can rough up the hair as you sleep whereas sleeping on silk will cause fewer frizzy strands in the morning.

3. Keep it clean

Many people will say that washing your hair too often will dry it out and remove too many of the natural oils that keep hair looking silky and smooth. While this is true with some shampoo products, if you spend a little more on usual hair salon recommended brands this is less of a concern. If you ever have any questions about which products to use on your hair, your stylist should always be your first port of call. They will be familiar with your hair type and be able to recommend the right one product for you, and how often you should use it.

4. Moisturize your scalp and hair

The skin under your hair needs to be moisturized in the same way as the rest of the skin on your head. It needs to be looked after for the hair follicles to remain healthy and strong. This type of proactive protection doesn’t need to end once you’re out of the shower. In fact, you should always make sure that you’re using protective products once your hair is dry too.

5. Stay loyal to your products

There is a myth that changing up your hair products and routine is needed to keep your hair healthy. It is actually a lot more beneficial for your hair if you keep a strict regime of hair care so that your hair can get used to the products you’re using.

6. Eat right for healthy hair

Making sure that you are eating a balanced diet is very important for keeping your hair healthy. You need to have a diet that is rich in iron, zinc and omega 3 to help keep your hair follicles healthy.

7. Limit sun exposure

Your hair can be damaged by the sun over time in the same way that your skin is. Even though the damage is less obvious, you should still be mindful of the effect that UV light can have on your hair. You can even by leave in conditioner that has sunblock in it if being outside in the summer is unavoidable, and let’s face it. Summer is the best time to show off your hair.

8. Don’t shower with hot water

Hot water dries out the skin on your scalp and can be very bad for your hair. You should make sure that you keep the water that you wash your hair with cool to avoid this. As always, if you have any questions about hair care or how to keep your hair in the best possible condition, you should speak with your hair care professional.
